Get the Panda FAQS!

  • The red panda is affectionately known in the furry community as the “Wah” because of its distinctive cry. Thomas Hardwicke actually gave them this name when he introduced it to Europeans in 1821. Red pandas actually do have a reputation for cleanliness! Hardwicke also associated them with the name “bear cat” because of the considerable time they dedicate to grooming themselves like domestic cats. Our red panda mascot, “Slices,” wishes to inform you that he in particular is known for his luxurious odor. In fact — four out of five red pandas agree: red pandas smell great!

  • Our fragrance oils are a very pure product that go quite a long way! You should get many weeks of enjoyment from a single bottle. Because of its strong concentration, it should not be applied directly to skin. (It could cause irritation or a rash if you are especially sensitive to one of the ingredients). We love using it in cold water diffusers, which do a fantastic job of safely aerosolizing it around your entire room or play-space. You could also try putting a few drops on a wool dryer ball to spice up your laundry, or even in an air filter to make your space more inviting! Feel free to get creative using our IFRA Guideline charts. Our products are safe when used as directed but it should go without saying it should never be ingested.

  • Us! Nearly every soap or cosmetic manufacturer in existence is buying their fragrance oil from online vendors. Neither the soap-maker, nor the reseller have any idea what’s in it; nor do they have any control over the composition. We pride ourselves in creating each scent from scratch. Product development is kept entirely in-house, with furries and littles being the jury as far as what pushes our noses’ buttons. Our smells are totally unique and one-of-a-kind! When you buy a Wah Wash product you are getting a smell that was developed by your community, not mass produced by an overseas fragrance house. Once completed, our finished blend is sent out to a third-party lab who specializes in bulk compounding and independently audits our composition to ensure safety and compliance with IFRA regulations.

  • Our products are fragrance oils, not essential oils. Essential oils are created by steam distillation or solvent extraction of chemical compounds in a particular plant. Fragrance oils are blends of chemicals creatively used to create a new smell. Many of these are found in the natural world, but some are entirely unique synthetic compounds that can be powerful tools for creating beautifully nuanced scents. There is a common misconception that naturally sourced essential oils are a safer alternative to synthetic fragrance oils, but this is far from the truth. The consensus among chemists is that fragrance oils are actually far LESS toxic or likely to cause an adverse reaction.

  • A typical essential oil contains 100-500 distinct chemicals, some of which can be allergens, carcinogens, or skin sensitizers in unquantified amounts. On the other hand, synthetic fragrance oils have a distinct, deliberate composition and are highly regulated as far as ingredients are concerned. Our typical fragrance contains between 20 and 40 carefully selected components. The IFRA (International Fragrance Association) sets industry guidelines for safe levels of fragrance compounds based on available research. Any compound likely to be an allergen or skin sensitizer is either restricted or banned based on the possibility of a reaction, and those which are carcinogenic are prohibited.

  • Sometimes our furry friends are more curious than we give them credit for… An exposed oil diffuser or spilled puddle of oil can definitely be a hazard if not cleaned up or pet-proofed. Just like it is not safe for human consumption, it is certainly not safe for animal consumption. So please protect your critters by storing your bottles where your pets can't get to them, and your diffusers out of reach of grabby paws. Canines and felines have much more sensitive sniffers than us, so even though it's safe to have it diffusing in the room, you don’t want them directly inhaling the aroma. However, our feathered friends are a different story; their respiratory tracts are extremely sensitive. Even diffusing oils for a short period of time around them can be very dangerous. If you have birds you should avoid diffusing essential oils or fragrance oils of any kind.

  • No. Our fragrance oils are just that, fragrance oils. Wah Wash has no psychoactive components of any kind; nor is it intended to treat/cure any disease or illness. While the bottle shape and size may look similar, our product contains no alkyl nitrites. As such, it should not be mistaken for or used as poppers.

  • Wah Wash is a true cold process soap; not a melt-and-pour. “Melt-and-pour” soap is a type of product geared towards hobbyist soapmakers that is used as a way of quickly producing bars via a crock-pot, double boiler, or microwave. Soap makers who want to avoid handling sodium hydroxide and forgo the long curing time of producing the soap themselves will sometimes use a pre-made base that they can quickly melt and solidify in molds. Companies that manufacture the pre-made base are forced to increase the glycerin and alcohol content, leading to a soap that quickly dissolves in the shower and sweats due to the increased levels of humectants. We believe the extra effort and time results in a better quality product, and thus Wah Wash is a custom cold-process soap with our own favorite blend of oils. By doing so, we are able to get a bar of soap that is hard, bubbles like heck, and feels great on your skin!

  • When we started making cold process soap we were driven to use scent in innovative ways. Our chemist discovered a method for making cold-process soap smell like anything we want! One of the reasons soap makers would sometimes choose “melt-and-pour” base is the tendency of cold process to destroy fragrances due to the high pH necessary for creating the soap. Many fragrance components will undergo nucleophilic attack in the presence of sodium hydroxide and leave you with a bar of soap with little to no smell. That’s why nearly every time you buy cold-process soap the fragrances you see on the shelves are all very similar. Those who make soap with this method usually have a great bar of soap, but a limited pallet as far as fragrance is concerned. We didn’t want our production method standing in the way of us creating the best sensory experience possible so we nitro-infuse our fragrance after the soap is already cured! This gives us complete creative control over the end result, and delivers a predictable full-spectrum scent in every bar.

  • Friend Scents is our unique approach to fursuit and fabric sprays. We set out to create a way of delivering our scents in a spray that would be safe for a variety of fabric products (plushies, pillow-cases, bedsheets, clothes, and of course fursuits) while maintaining the sensory experience that our pure oil in a diffuser provides. The majority of fursuit sprays on the market are alcohol based, and have a strong ‘boozy’ smell that gets in the way of the fragrance. Friend Scents are a micro-emulsion spray that smells great from the very beginning and lasts for 12-24 hours with a single spray!
